REIKI (pronounced "ray-key") is a form of hands-on healing with origins traced back at least 2,500 years through writings in Japan, Buddhist Sutras and Tibetan sacred texts. Cultures dating back to ancient times have had the wisdom and knowledge that an unseen energy flows through all living things, and is directly related to health by stimulating vitality and well being. The ability to channel this energy has been passed from practitioner to practitioner through training lineages, since Dr. Usui "rediscovered" it at the end of the 19th century in Japan.
During a Reiki session, a client lies on a massage table, fully clothed. A practitioner places his or her hands over several areas of the body that correspond to the energy centers near major organs. In this way, the healing energy of Reiki flows through all the main systems of the body. Most clients report feeling extremely relaxed and warm during the session. The Reiki energy can continue having positive effects for up to a week after a session. The effects of continued treatment range from prolonged relaxation to, in some cases, radical healing.
The benefits of Reiki have been acknowledged by western medicine, as many nurses are attuned and using this technique on patients in hospitals, rehabilitation centers and hospice centers around the world.
Our Center offers several different ways to experience Reiki: a session with a practitioner; a distance healing done by a practitioner and later read to you either in person or on the phone; trainings where you are attuned to receive and transmit Reiki energy; and Reiki clinics at our San Diego Center.

The Tibetan Healing Center also discusses Reiki as part of our Wednesday Healing Circles each month.
